Frank’s RV Newsletter Fall 2017

Now is the time to explore with an RV!

I thought it was about time I got out an article for 2017, as it has been a while.

How about an opening picture take from the my RV?

Willamette Valley Blacktail deer in velvet during early August 2017. He has disappeared from the scene as of August 19th.. He will show up after the season for more pictures.

First note of the day is that I believe ground is finally moving up in Woodland, Washington on the new B Young RV Dealership.   Taken a while to get the permits and of course get the complex plans all put together and signed off.   The complex is going to be quite the RV Dealership and it will be great for our Washington customers, making it much easier getting their RV’s service and buying an RV.   Of course our staff that lives in Washington will get an automatic pay raise in having not to pay the Oregon Income Tax for working in Oregon.

B Young RV just got done with the second Tiffin Rally in 7 years.  This Rally was held in Salem, Oregon and was a very successful Rally for B Young RV, Tiffin RV, Sales Staff and that of the customers that drove away after a couple of days in their new Tiffin RV.

Since my last article B Young RV has added a couple more Sprinter chassis based motorhome companies, that being Winnebago with the Navion (Class B+) and Regency RV with the Exalta (Class B).  Both companies are highly regarded in the industry.

2018 Winnebago Navion 24V at Gold Beach, Oregon

Tiffin has come out with the Wayfarer Sprinter chassis Class B Motorhome.  My feelings are that the Wayfarer is right up at the top.   One of the standards from Tiffin is the diesel generator and solid hardwood cabinetry.  The Chafee style door makes it easier for seniors to put their cargo in the holds.

Business wise at B Young RV, another recorded breaking year for the company, it is simply amazing how much traffic and the number of RV’s heading to destinations all over North America.

About 4 months ago I traded in my 3rd RV bought from B Young RV for another.  Seems when they are about 1 ½ years old with 35K on them, it is time.  As you all know it is all about the floorplan and the floorplans changed all the time.   This one might have to last a while…  It is the first one with a solar panel, factory installed inverter and the TUMA hot water heater system.  My wife said she loves this RV and has done some interior decor, styled to the beach, this being the first time in any of our RVs’…

TUMA  system is easy to use and get hot water on demand.

It is a phenomenon to see what is happening with Grand Design RV and the popularity of the many products they make with the Imagine, Reflection, Solitude and Momentum.  Inventory is tough to keep and the factory is making more plants to keep up with the demand.  Recently my neighbor, who has been looking for a travel trailer, bought an Imagine and did not mind waiting for a factory order.

The fall season camping season is about to start and many of the camp grounds now have openings.  So many times the weather in the valley can be bad, and trying to go east can be tough with the weather in the mountains, but the Oregon or California coast can be great.  The parks this summer were tough to get in with no or little openings, even during the middle of the week.  Have you ever thought how lucky we are to have a coastline that we can see the ocean and get to the beach fairly easy?

Roosevelt Elk are something to look for during a trip to the coast or along the coast. This is an Oregon bull, but California on the Northern Hwy 101 is the spot to catch them…
Picture take 10-13-17

Oregonians are very privileged to have so many Oregon State Parks to use.   RVers’ come from all over North America to see and camp in Oregon, thus you’ll see many using these parks.   The Californians come in groves during the fishing season using all the parks on the Oregon Coast.

I have seen during our travels south to the border that many of the State Parks are going through upgrades, such newly installed septic hookups at most campsite and best of all the clearing of the plants and brush in the campsites.   This allows larger RV’s to use the sites.  It is always said, “If it fits, then it is your campsite” FRB

This Whale was very close to the rocks. One has to be on the ready to get the shots.

There still are Whales working up the Oregon Coast as of this past week.  To be truthful, almost every spot one could pull alongside the road, you could see Whales breaching.  At Whales Cove, there were Cow’s with Calves working the bay.   There is a trail that you can get close, but be careful about putting your weight on the tree on the edge overlooking the bay.  It is a long ways down to the rocks below…

This Whale and others near Boiler Bay, Oregon

For all of B Young RV Customers and those that read this have a great fall and winter.  Those heading south to AZ and S.E. California, have a great and safe trip.

Bwana Bubba’s RV Newsletter – Autumn 2015

RVing is an Adventure in Life

Well… We’re into autumn, but it seems more like summer around Oregon.   Can you believe the other day while down the Oregon Coast, it was 75 degrees in the last days of September?   With my new work schedule it, we are able to venture further on my days off and even made it down to Bandon, Oregon.   Soon the Cranberry harvest will be going on in the southern Oregon coast.   The Cranberry Festival has already been held in August, as the tourists from around the country have been in Oregon on vacation.  Guess they must have had frozen berries leftover from last year…

What a year it has been at B Young RV and for the RV Industry as a whole.   We see record months in sales of all kinds of RV’s at B Young RV.   Tiffin Motorhomes have been leading the way as Number 1 in Class A motorhomes. In the Class B+, there has been a great increase in the sales of Prisms’ which are on the Sprinter (Mercedes Benz) chassis.   Of course the Coachmen Freelander and Leprechaun Class C’s have been rolling out the door, as well.  I see that Coachmen are innovating new features within model years.   They are always improving their product lines.

In the 5th wheel lineup, the flagship for Thor is the Redwood and we are extremely pleased with the Redwood.  The Redwood is full residential – luxury 5th wheel that is designed for fulltime living, with a residential feeling in every aspect.  Grand Design products, both in travel trailers and 5th wheels have been the hot product for 2015 and I can see them leading the category in the future.   I do love my motorhome, but I would own a Reflection or Solitude!

Anytime that I am in Pine Grove, Oregon on Hwy 216 on the way to Maupin, I always stop. Eugene Walters who owns the store has been there more than 30 years. He is one of the locals that is call out to help on fires. Warm Springs Indian Reservation get a great deal of fires. Eugene is always on the ready!

Now that my schedule has changed to a 4 day work week we have been covering a great deal of highway and backroads on my days off.   Always having a camera on the ready on the dash, I have been able to capture some amazing photo of wildlife and birds.   On the bird scene catching Blue Herons or Great Egrets while taking off seems to be my goal.  They are very weary birds, not always allowing the stalk to be close.   I have a couple of new parks that we have stayed at since the Oregon State Parks this summer and going into fall have been full.   The last few weeks on the Oregon coast from Newport, Oregon and down to Bandon, our neighbors from down south have taken over the Oregon State Parks.   The Salmon are running, so the Californians are here in full force to fish for Salmon in the bays and rivers.  I have had customers talk about Sea & Sand at Lincoln Beach, so finally we have stayed there twice.  This is very clean, nice and peaceful park, with the beach in walking distance and super ocean view on the top side.

For those that have watched the Food Channel with Guy Fieri, there are a number of restaurants he has recommended in Oregon.  The one that we just had to find was in Eugene by the name of Papa’s Soul Food Kitchen.   We had to wait for it to open and I made sure I was at the head of the line some 45 minutes before it opened.  The line was long and the food was a 10+ with great helpings and great price.   I could see why they have a strong customer base, the service was far greater than I expected…

I hope that everyone who has an RV has been enjoying the experiences that I have been enjoying.   The RV, no matter what style, is an avenue to escape the daily grind of life.  You can see so much of our great Nation while using an RV.   For those of you that have yet to experience the pleasure of owning an RV, don’t wait until any longer, you want to enjoy it to the fullest!  If you have children, or even grandchildren, owning an RV would give them their greatest adventure in life to be RVing with YOU!  This I know as my granddaughter, who is 7, asks every week when are we going to the Beach!

This is the fun you can have while RVing. I was in a park that had a lake and got the shot!

It has been a blast to work for Bruce (the B in the Young) for 6 years selling RV’s to happy customers!  I look forward to the future at B Young RV!

For those that like to venture into the forest, desert, mountains for fishing, rock hounding, hunting or even hiking, you should consider having mapping that will let you know if you can be on the land your on.  Do not rely on paper maps or even a general programmed GPS…

If you have forgotten, please remember that folks that have bought their RV’s from B Young RV are part of the Priority RV Network, which includes discounts in the Stores and being a priority customer while on the open road at other Priority RV Dealerships.  Another thing you are invited to get a FREE Insurance Quote, one way to see if your insurance company is competitive on pricing.  There is an APP for IPADS and SMART PHONES FREE.

One last item of the Newsletter:   I highly recommend a product called XZILON (Molecular Adhesion). If your RV is in very good condition outside with good decals, paint and could be 6 Months to 2-3 Years, you need to do this for the long haul.  I do have it on my motorhome and you can tell the difference when washing it right off the bat, bugs don’t stick like glue. The product is us by Boeing on their aircraft for a number of reasons, 1) better coefficient, 2) protect the outside of the plane and engines and lastly, much easier to clean.

I would suggest that you contact Juan or Chet at B Young RV @ 503-305-8685!

Bwana Bubba’s RV Newsletter – Summer 2014

Missle Bucks

Well summer 2014 is about to start soon and I am ready for the Sun in the N.W.

As I start to write this newsletter, we are down at Seventh Feathers RV Resort south of Roseburg, Oregon and it is raining fairly heavy.   As my granddaughter Addison would say at 6 years old it is raining dogs and cats, plus buckets of water with snails.   Yes snails, when it is warm and we have heavy rains it brings the snails out in groves.

2014 has started out with a bang on RV Sales throughout the country and here at B Young RV the increases from 2013 are tremendous, thanks to all the referrals that we get.   Seems all categories of RV’s are selling at B Young RV and other dealers around the country.  Guess the Baby Boomers want to hit the road and those that are still working with families are finding that spending time in the outdoor environment with the whole family to be an adventurer! It is interesting though how many people are selling their homes and with some of the equity hitting the roads in an RV for a while, then settle in a tax friendly state.   I find it is like being off the Grid a bit and not having to take care of your yard anymore, pay property taxes, plus you can leave at any time to a new playground in your RV.

While down at Seventh Feathers RV Resort (p.s. I don’t gamble) I have had the privilege to play golf a couple of times out at the Myrtle Creek Golf Course.  The first time I only had a couple of old Walter Hagen 6 & 8 irons (probably about 75 years old, given to me by my grandfather in 1967) in the back of the motorhome with a putter.   I was able to borrow a driver with trust that I would return it after play.  What a great time, I have now learned that I need to carry my regular clubs with me at all times.  What amazed me was the amount of Turkeys and Deer running around on the challenging course.   It was before Turkey season started in Oregon and the Toms were out strutting everywhere on the course! Yes! They stopped play as I had to take a video of the birds working the green:

LINK:   Tom’s on the Green

The second time down at Seventh Feathers RV Resort I had my clubs and played well in the wind, rain, sun and hail at Myrtle Creek Golf Course.  The course held up great and was a blast to play and being able to work the Par 3’s with more than one ball.  I had the course to myself into the late afternoon!  The Course GM and the Course PGA Pro are really great guys and the atmosphere is very homely and open.   The Marshall was a hoot and warned me I should go up a club on the Elevated Tee box Par 3 13th Hole, as the wind will catch the ball.  Two times I did it my way and put the ball into the sand trap (2’ apart) at the edge of the green, the next shot I took his advice and put it on the green.  “I told you so” Ok!  Enough Golf, go and have fun there though.

You can even get a great hot dog or hamburger at the diner!

Made a trip into California this spring also and found a really nice campground to stay in with friendly staff along the Northern California Coastline at Benbow KOA!  It was great to find that particular campground late into the evening.   Checked out other campgrounds, but felt uncomfortable, seems many of the old campgrounds in the Redwoods have lived on from the old days (60’s and 70’s) with little upkeep.  There is a great deal of remoteness in the area and sometimes I think I had gone back in time to when I was a kid…  Maybe a some paint and trimming of trees would have help change the atmosphere of RV Parks in the Redwoods!

A couple of our Tiffin Customers Russ and Pam will be heading to RED BAY, Alabama to see their Tiffin being built in July after the holidays.   The welcome mat has been put out for them to have a memorable experience!  Russ will be sending me a series of pictures on the build and I can’t wait to see how it is done from the customer’s view.  Russ I think will be assisting in the production… I have a couple of restaurants down in Bandon, that everyone that heads down the way might enjoy to eat.  Always 1st cabin food and I have given you pictures so you can remember the buildings along the wharf in Bandon.

A new addition to B Young RV inventory is the Rubicon, a pull behind Toy Hauler, a great looking Toy Hauler at a great value.   Now is the time to get great deals on all Toy Haulers at B Young RV.  The “B” in the Young has order more inventory and we need to move the 2014’s out!

Looking forward to 2014 an Even Year!

He won't be there for Christmas Dinner!
He won’t be there for Christmas Dinner!

I truly wish everyone that reads this, A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  I do hope that the Holidays are great with the gathering of family and friends.   May the New Year bring prosperity to this great Nation and those that support Her!

2013 Has been a great year for B Young RV and the employees’ of our company that will start it’s 5 year in business.   I have been blessed to work for B Young RV from the first couple of months of being of being open.    It is great to work for a company that truly cares about their employees, for the second year in a row Bruce Young and his business partner Mark Bretz have given to every employee with profit sharing checks at a time of the year that everyone can use it.  It is blessing to all that receive that never expected it!

The November 2013 Metro RV Show was an outstanding show with the selling of every Tiffin Allegro Open Road Motorhome.   I would have to say it was a wild time at the show.   One of my new customers came to the show while heading out of town to Montana.   They just had to see and touch the new Tiffin Open Road 36LA they had heard so much about.   Words as they were leaving “we will be back, we are buying that coach.”  They did come back the following week and buy a Tiffin Allegro Open Road  36LA like we had at the show in Maroon Coral exterior, though they had to do a factory order.   The Tiffin Allegro Bus 45LP, didn’t last long either at the show, as neighbors’ to the north of CONUS came to the show and bought it…   I can only say it was a recorded show for B YOUNG RV!

If I haven’t said it before, it is true that everyone can camp year round in Oregon.  RVing is a year round event in Oregon.  Do you remember how the weather was in Portland Metro area of Oregon during Thanksgiving this year?   Well we pulled our motorhome out of storage at Portland Luxury RV & Boat Storage in Milwaukie, Oregon on the Monday before Thanksgiving.  I had told PLRB, that I would not be using it until January!   “Hmm!” Dawn said to me at PLRB!  Head out on Tuesday in the Heavy Fog on I-5.   We took the cutoff to Drain and Reedsport with the fog trying to lift in the coastal mountains, once we hit the turn off to Loon Lake on the Umpqua Highway the blue sky emerged.   From what I understand the fog never lifted in Portland during the time we were gone.   The weather was great and the temperature was around 50-55 degrees on the Oregon Coast.   Fish & Chips at Bedrocks on the wharf at Winchester Bay, Oregon and the cook did disclose where he had harvest the nice Roosevelt Bull that hangs in hangs in the back dining area. . .  Classified!

A new wild edition scheme at B Young RV!

Bwana Bubba’s RV Newsletter End of Summer 2013

Summer is now gone, but not the weather!  I started this News Letter at the start of the Summer in June and ended up finishing it yesterday!  In the N.W. there is camping year round!  Activities are year round!

September is upon us and with that we have another great Portland Fall RV and Van Show coming up on September 12th through September 15th at the Portland Expo Center in Portland along the great Columbia River in Oregon!

What a beauty of a motorhome. New 2014 Allegro Phaeton 42LA in the Rustic Canyon Exterior!

There is still plenty of time to enjoy the camping in the N.W. and other places of destination in North America. As I write this News Letter, we happen to be parked in B-10 at Devils Lake State Park on the Oregon Coast at Lincoln City, Oregon. Very surprise to get a spot as most of the State Parks from the Willamette Valley and along Hwy 101 have been full!

Leaving from Oregon City, the temperature was at 96 degrees and arriving at Lincoln City the temperature was a crisp 53 degrees with Marine Air moving in. Devil’s Lake Oregon State Park is a nice park to stay at on the west side of the Devils Lake. It is home to the shortest river in the world, called D River. My wife’s father helped build the bridge that went over the river on Hwy. 101. I do believe that the bridge was built in about 1946.

There are great new RV’s for 2014 and a number of major upgrades to existing brand lines that B YOUNG RV has.

Redwood 5th Wheels are leading the way for Thor, being one of the most popular Luxury 5th Wheels in North America.

Other 5th Wheels such as Bayhill from Evergreen RV.

The Solitude and Reflection from Grand Design Recreational Vehicles.

Plus the Santibel and Crusader from Prime Time RV with their style of construction have been leading the industry in popularity. It is a real pleasure to have customers buy these fine lines of 5th Wheels.

Recently the ALL NEW MOMENTUM Toy Hauler from Grand Designs Recreational Vehicles arrived at B YOUNG RV! Wow!

This summer the dealership was not been able to keep the Coachmen Freelanders’ in stock, as the Freelander Class C is the Number 1 selling Class C in North America. Coachmen this last year came out with a short Class C with the 19CB on the Ford E350 Chassis. Been a real hit for those RVer’s that want a short and agile motorhome the reliable Ford Chassis.

Oh! My! I have to tell you that the New 2014 Tiffin Allegro Open Road Gas Class A Motorhome is now in the space age. The upgrades for 2014 have taken me back a step, with one upgrade that you find in the Allegro Bus with the Multiplex Wiring. How about a optional Flexsteel Passenger 6 way Power Seat with a footrest. It is pretty awesome and you should check out the video I did on the Open Road 32CA that just arrive a few days ago. Tiffin RV for 2014 is using Thermal Foil (space blanket) for additional insulation in all their motorhomes that already are tested into the minus temperatures. The new MCD shades no longer have the chains, but you pull them down easily and then when you want to put them up, you pull slightly down and let go and they slowly go back into the valance. There are many more upgrades for 2014, that you just have to come and see!

2014 is going to be a record year for the RV business’s! I myself believe that folks are just wanting to escape the everyday hassle and enjoy life. There is the new age (so called Baby Boomers) out there that have worked hard all their lives and want to spend the new 20-30 years seeing North America before it changes. The youth that have jobs have found that it is cheaper to own an RV, then stay in a hotel on vacations or weekend jaunts. We can tell it is boomer year, as the factories are about 3-4 months in waiting for orders. It is a great thing that B YOUNG RV during the Louisville Show (dealer show) in November 2012 forecasted the future for 2013.   Now if we could just keep some Tiffin Open Road Gas Motorhomes in stock!

I don’t have a crystal ball, but I do see B YOUNG RV expanding in the near future and creating new jobs in Oregon and help in keep the RV manufacturers busy during the winter months.

In my Spring RV Letter I talked about the circle of life! Well it hasn’t change and a couple of happening this summer have been interesting.

1) Had a customer that served aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany CVA 34 during the Korean War and worked in the same area of the ship as my dad. This customer also was at the sinking of CVA 34 (the first Naval Air Craft Carrier with the hurricane bow) when it was made into the largest manmade reef in the world. The ship settle to the bottom of the gulf with the flight deck being level.

2) The company hired a new sales person who went into the U.S. Navy in the same year as I did back in 1967! Oh! The President of the United States was L.B. Johnson!  Just think, I shook his hand and almost got his 10 gallon hat back in 1964 when I was going to Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, Oregon.  Who would thought that I would end up volunteering to go to Vietnam at the time of life and shaking the hand of the man that put us there…

3) I ran into another U.S. Navy CT who was an R Brancher (Ditty Chaser) in the Philippines during the same time frame as myself at the Naval Communications Station San Miguel.

Priority RV has just gotten better with the addition of 30 dealers in Canada, thus making Priority RV Network the largest dealer network in North America for the benefit of RV owners that have purchased RVs’ from Priority RV Dealers. A network that is design to give customers that are traveling a comfort that there is a homeport for emergency RV needs when they are away from their home!

I have a couple of parks that you all might like to stay at in the future:

There is Casey’s Riverside RV Park on the North Fork of the Willamette River outside of Oakridge. Very clean and friendly park that you can fish on the river at.

There is the Bend/Sisters Garden RV Park outside of Sister, Oregon to the east of town. I have had the privilege to stay here this month for a night.  Very reasonable priced high class RV Park.  There is lots of room to take a walk, play putt-putt golf, horseshoes, swim in season, outdoor sauna, or just sit around and enjoy Central Oregon.  They have a small store that one can get a cold drink or maybe a common used part for an RV.   It is known as the Garden Park of Central Oregon.  I highly recommend you to stay and enjoy!  It is just east of Sisters, Oregon on Hwy 20 going to Bend, Oregon!

This is a capture view from above using the huntinggpsmaps system on my I PAD!
Aerial View of the Bend – Sisters Garden RV Park!
This is a capture view from above using the huntinggpsmaps system on my I PAD!

The last park would be The Rainbow RV Park & Campground along the McKenzie River on Hwy OR 126, a very quite park along the McKenzie River. The McKenzie River is world famous with the chance to catch a Grayling. The river is known for it clarity, making is very tough river to fish!

Now the one Oregon State Park I will suggest would be Collier State Park south of Bend, Oregon on Hwy 197. The park is on the influence of the Spring Creek and the famous Williamson River. The Williamson River is known for the giant Rainbow Trout that come up from Klamath Lake to breed. You’ll find great numbers in August and the fishing can be very hot for big bows. I have fished the area and south to Chiloquin. Near that area the Wood River flows into the Williamson. This is a sight to see for all and I would even suggest for the hard core fishermen to go above Collier and fish the marshy area. The bows up there are smaller of course, but the are almost black with a bright red stripe down their side.

In closing I hope to see some of you at the Portland Fall RV and Van Show.   I will leave you also with two wildlife shots of big game in Oregon!
